If you had to give up one of your senses, which would you give up? Sight, smell, sound, touch, or taste?

I'd give up smell. In a heartbeat.

Farts. Vomit. Rotten eggs. Good riddance!

But then I'd lose out on the good scents. Freshly baked bread. Popcorn. Gasoline.

Oh, wait, gasoline isn't something I should be snorting in volume, right? Also, what happens when I need to smell something for the sake of safety? If there's a gas leak, I wouldn't know unless I lit a match.

There's other dangers too. Like carbon monoxide. If I lose my sense of smell, how would I smell carbon… oh, wait. Duh.

Would I also lose all sense of nature's aphrodisiac: pheromones? How would I know a girl is in heat if I can't smell? Maybe because she's taking off her clothes and smiling at me with that "come hither" look. But how else?

Taste is supposed to be enhanced by smell. Some say that smelling wine is just as important as tasting it. Would I truly enjoy a nice steak dinner if I lost the sense of smell? Would it taste the same?

Okay, so not being able to smell could suck. There's a lot I wouldn't be able to do anymore.

The flip side is losing one of the other senses.

Sight? No more reading books, watching movies, viewing artwork. Or—gasp—porn!

Sound? No more listening to music or having good conversations, two of my most favorite things.

Touch? No more kissing, holding hands, or holding, well, anything. Because how would I know I'm holding something, and what if I break it or drop it?

Taste? No more good wine or good steak. Although, hmm… I could eat foul-tasting, yet healthy foods. Like liver and fish oil, yuck.

Gone would also be vanilla, ice cream, and gummy bears. Damn. With my sweet tooth, that's too much to give up.

Okay, my sense of smell it is! Fart away!
