It's Sunday Again
December 19th, 1999Ah, it's Sunday again; another day of quiet and relaxation to myself.
I've made Sundays my day to rest. Life's been going a little too fast lately and a break is much needed.
This is when I update my rambles and (now defunct) WebBabble sites, catch up with e-mail, and handle any other web stuff for my sites.
I find writing these rambles very relaxing; it's a wonderful way to pour out what's on my mind. It's super flattering that people actually read these too (thanks!).
So here I am, right now, sitting at my computer. I've got my Late Show t-shirt on. (Got it back when I worked at CBS; I stayed up for 14 hours straight to get the Late Show web site launched on time, and all I got was this stupid t-shirt.)
The new album from Type O Negative is blasting on my stereo. It's a pretty cool CD. I like their Bloody Kisses album much better (it's a classic, baby), but this one isn't all that bad.
The TV is on as well. The Simpsons just finished and Futurama is on now. The Simpsons aren't as good as they used to be, though the animation certainly has improved. Futurama uses lots of special computerized effects plus animation, which adds an extra layer on top of those rather bland jokes.
The remnants of my dinner is sitting next to me on my desk. Baked ziti in meat sauce. I can still smell it. Yum.
There's a pile of mail on the floor. A bunch of computer and graphic design catalogs, a few bills, and the latest WebTechniques magazine. There's a Long Island Rail Road train schedule besides them.
My work laptop is on my bed. I was just doing some work before.
Sigh… Can you believe that? Here I am, going on and on about how Sundays are my day to relax. And there I was, just a few minutes ago, taking care of some work. I'm a workaholic, what can I say?
Oh look, here are some holiday cards that I haven't sent out yet. And that reminds me—I haven't finished my holiday shopping yet. There's one week left; every slacker and busy body who hasn't completed their shopping yet will be just like me, rushing to the store to grab whatever I can before suffocating in the crowds.
As I'm writing this, I'm surfing the web. And you know what? I'm going to do a little online shopping. Yea. That'll save my ass for at least a few people. I can't buy all the stuff I want online, but at least I can polish off a few names off the list.
Gosh, that sounded darn impersonal, didn't it? Since when did this holiday become such a commercialized occasion? Well, since as far as I can remember, actually.
Well look at that. I'm comparing prices right now between two web sites, Amazon.com and Reel.com. There are a few other sites out there that sell what I'm looking for, but I've got these two sites up already and don't want to wait around to load another one.
Ugh. What a horrible site; Reel.com sure took a long time to load. At least I found the item pretty quickly. I hate it when it takes forever to find something. It's even worse when you use their search engine, and that doesn't even bring up the right results.
Amazon.com's got a cheaper price. So Amazon.com gets my order. Ah. What a cool site; they made it relatively painless. Pretty quick too. I'll definitely go back there again.
Uh oh, Futurama is over. I wonder what else is on? Nothing much of interest. I suppose I could turn the TV off; I've got enough media bombarding me as it is. But nah, I rather like having it on. Even if I can't totally make out what the people are saying. It's sort of like an extra companion that doesn't demand my immediate attention, you could say.
You know what? The smell of baked ziti is making me hungry again. I think I'm going to go grab some more. Thanks for reading! I'll see you next week!
What did you do this Sunday?
