I Don't Want To Miss A Thing
August 15th, 1999I love sappy stuff.
I'm sitting here right now, listening to the soundtrack of the movie Armageddon. Aerosmith's version of "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" is playing.
This song was originally written by Diane Warren, an acclaimed pop songwriter who's written dozens of hits for pop singers like Celine Dion, Selena, and Tina Turner. Aerosmith does a pretty nice rendition of it, in my humble opinion.
It's a beautiful song. Totally sappy. Sap to the max. Someone wrote a review of this song on Amazon.com and said that she wants this song played at her wedding. That's the kind of sap this song is all about.
Here's some of it's poetry:
"I could stay awake just to hear you breathing.
Watch you smile while you are sleeping.
While you're far away and dreaming.
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender.
I could stay lost in this moment forever.
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure."
I used to write oodles of poetry for an ex-girlfriend. Oodles. All sappy stuff right from the heart. Romantic bliss from eternal springs of passion.
Sure, I'm man enough to admit that I like romance. I believe that a man should romance a woman; I believe that the most direct journey to the heart is a flight of subliminal serenity and choleric surprise.
I've always liked to shock people. Be it scaring the unshakable with a terrifying imagination, stupefying the jaded with acts of kindness, or startling the coy with silliness.
I place romance in that category as well.
Doing something that surprises the person you love, something that comes from the very core of your heart. That's romance.
Doing something that the person you love enjoys, something that touches deep into this person's heart. That's romance.
Doing something that makes the person you love smile, something that makes you smile too. That's romance.
That was sappy, wasn't it? Well, like I said, I love sappy stuff.
Do you like sappy stuff?

aww. sappy stuff. wffs - warm fuzzy feelings. I remember eons ago when an ex used to serenade me with "I Swear" or Tommy Page stuff (scary).
I think the aging process (like I'm SO old now, hah!) has taught me to learn to love a different kinda sappiness. Watching rainbows or cuddles on a rainy day is sappy to me now.

What a coincidence, I just happened to be listening to this song today. Sappy stuff is good stuff!
