It's not so easy anymore. Coming up with a ramble that isn't about the terrorist attacks on American soil, I mean.
It's been one of the main topics of conversation. More so with my family and friends from New York, who still endure waves of other terrorist scares (like bomb threats, poison gas threats, second terrorist strike threats, etc).
Like you, I'm numb. My mind is a frozen wasteland. An impenetrable glacier through which all thought is impossible.
This couldn't have just happened. Things like this don't happen. They don't, they just don't.
"Hello?"
"Hi Mike, it's Dad."
"Oh, hi! How are you doing?"
"I'm okay. I just got back home. My office shut early. I'm lucky, I was working in the Long Island City branch today. But I saw the whole thing."
